todays project

This is one of the new wrap tops i made this afternoon!

i'm really happy with the rose floral fabric i added to the front. i also ran many rows of stitches lengthwise on it to give it a quilted effect (see close up below).

i haven't yet decide if this one is finished yet. i feel the need to 'jazz it up' a bit with something but i'm not sure what that something is yet.

i was also able to upload some more new superpower wrist cuffs to my etsy store today.

yeah!

go me!

etsy faires and the magical wrist cuffs

Oh my goodness!

It's like a miracle has happened. New items appeared in my etsy store as if by magic, overnight. I love it when the etsy fairies come down, photograph some groovy goods and then post them in my shop. It's a wondrous day the whole world round!

These are some lovely hand stitched wrist cuffs I made during the tepid late winter months and are finally made available to you! So go on.... don't be shy.

Maybe I'll sprinkle more magic dust around my crafting space and see what happens tonight!

Recycled Sweater Wrap

hooray for threadheads inspiration!

i watched this video the other day and became completely inspired to make some yummy tops myself!

i had a performance sewing gig last weekend and thought it would be the perfect experience to break out the bag of dumpster finds (and yes, i washed them first).

i was sewing up a storm having the most fabulous time as people would come by to see what was happening. as one wonderous wrap creation came off the machine, someone would try it on and parade it around the party. it was fabulous and i made sales right then and there.

these pictures show one that i just made this afternoon out of an off the shoulder sweater from american eagle(i think?). i cut it at the waist, cut it up the front and chopped the sleeves off with a little curve so it would be more tank style. i added patches and used black jersey for the waist ties. the first picture shows before i decided on a closure for the top. i didn't think it looked right without it and i was happy with the way it all turned out.

if you are in the chicago area you can find this top and more for sale at the midwest yoga conference in the i love yoga booth.

here's some before and after shots of a few more of the tops that came out of last weekend's festivities.

this ugly/ginormous/holidayish sweater turns into a chic zen top.

this nasty/gold/sparkley mock turtleneck got a new life!

i think don't think i've ever seen a larger purple chenille turtleneck.

ever.

craft your vegan lunch... curry lentil soup

i made some delicious soup the other day using everything in the fridge that needed to be used. sorry for the horrible pictures. our tongue and groove ceiling really soaks up the light at night.

here's the rough recipe. i say rough because i don't really measure when i cook. so everything is an approximate.

olive oil
fresh garlic
1/2 red onion
1 carton vegetable broth
1 bag lentils
about a cup of kidney beans
1 sweet potato diced
about 5 small homegrown tomatoes
a big handful of baby carrots cut in half
1 bunch of red kale (my favorite!)
3 big tablespoons Patak's Hot Curry Paste (my favorite curry paste around)
• i just found out they make an extra hot curry paste! i'm going to have to keep an eye out. ps. make sure you mix the patak's with some of the coconut milk or water so it dissolves before you add it to the soup and you don't shock an unexpected eater!!
some garam masala
some chilli powder
2 cans coconut milk

of course, use organic ingredients when possible. just add them all to the pot (olive oil, garlic and onion first, saute and then everything else), bring to a boil and turn down to a simmer. add extra water or coconut milk as the lentils cook if you need it.

i love it the next day after the flavors get a chance to meld.

big mama and some brave men • etsy seller love

brave men run in my family... brave women too.

here's big mama with cubist literature's lovely monster sewing machine patch. i saw the shirt while browsing his etsy store and knew i had to have one (or two). i hit him up for a custom request for some patches and he got back to me and had them ready that very same day! how's that for service?!

craig is a former texan/knitting/printing/sewing type of man who now resides in brooklyn where he crafts up things from his irrational imagination.

flippin' gorgeous day!

leslie and i spent a completely gorgeous morning at a friend's beach house. i have a new appreciation for the atlantic ocean.

we thought we saw dolphins but then found out they were actually tarpon (thank goodness we didn't try and go swimming with them)

the water was so calm and clear we could see our toes! i felt like i was in the bahamas for a minute.

we stopped by the cooyah headquarters to see homer and the guys. they were swamped (as usual). we put ourselves to good use taking risque photos with the mannequins (not suitable for this blog ;o) )

then i saw something very disturbing...

headless children planters....
cuz someone thought it would be cute if there were planters in the miami neighborhoods that looked like headless children running around with plants stuffed in their chests?!? wha?!?!

i have been a big fan of the house of mouse for a while now. really now, how could you not be?

mice have held a special place in my heart ever since we got our own pet mouse, spottie.

these fabulous critters are meticulously crafted by anna in her amsterdam abode.

they sing, dance, knit, love, fight evil enemies, make potions, dj, belly dance, impersonate elvis, help sick people, are superheros and are simply fabulous!

craft your lunch

my family and i made a lovely lunch together today.

brown rice cooked with garbanzos.... add sesame oil, dulse flakes and braggs...... i shaped it with a little triangle mold i got from my friend naomi of puchimaiko. she makes the best onigiri imaginable. put a bottle cap in the mold after you add the rice and when you press it you'll have a perfect hole to fill with a store bought pesto.

simple salad of romaine, avocado, sprouts and homemade hummus.

side of peas (cuz i accidentally opened them thinking they were garbanzos) we never have peas?!?!

miami art space

my friend leslie, the superstar ragamufyn model, and i went out on the town this weekend hitting up a few art parties around the design district and wynwood.

the miami art space we came upon this groovy space filled with giant inflated balls by the magical miami artists friends with you.

i want some in my living room.

adorable shopper.

this adorable little shopper was at the store tonight having herself a fabulous time with all the little ragamufyn dresses. almost all the pictures i took of her were blurry cuz she was fast like the wind.

having a panty fixation

as it turns out, my panty fixation has turned into something more.

it all started one day when i was tired of my underpants (hehehe) and decided to try my hand at making my own panties. why not?! i make practically everything else.

so i got down to it. i picked through my stash, found the perfect knits, drafted a pattern and voila! panties! they were marvelous.....

but then......

i thought well, hey. if i just cut them a bit more generous a girl could totally rock these on so many different occasions. just think..... with a cape and some pink fishnets. at the beach, yoga class, well, pretty much anywhere in miami. it really wouldn't surprise me to see them walking down the aisle of my nearest publix.

after all that thought i knew i needed to complete the outfit with a matching yoga bra top.

it's hot. and should be available soon at the local store or my etsy store or maybe both.
